We are so excited to host our first kids nature camp! Here’s a little background before we jump into the details- Flowerfield Farmstead is a working cut flower farm and this is our 7th growing season! We have two children George (18 months) and Juniper (5yo) and another joining us this September. I was searching for a local outdoor summer program and could not find anything for our daughter’s age group. We decided to hire a certified preK teacher (Cassidy Zinsmaster) to lead a program at our farm.

At this nature summer camp we plan to spend most of our days outside (we have an indoor space for inclement weather). Each session will run Tuesday and Thursdays for 4 weeks. Here is an example rhthym for our day:

8-8:15 Drop Off (work on writing name, activity booklet + opening question)

8:15-8:45 Circle Time (calendar, themed book, letter of the day, songs)

8:45-9:15 Movement (hike, yoga..)

9:15-9:45 Nature Craft/Art

9:45-10 Snack (healthly snack provided by us - as the season goes on we plan to harvest + make some of our snacks from our gardens)

10:00-11:00 Themed/Directed Activity (gardening, nature focus…)

11:00-11:30 Free Play

11:30-11:45 Group Game

11:45-12 Closing circle (what we learned, enjoyed, closing song…)

12:00 Pick Up

In June we plan to focus on seeding, planting and maintaining the childrens’ gardens and catipillar lifecycle (hatch/release). As we move into July we will be able to harvest from our gardens- making snacks and harvests baskets, creating flower bouquets and crowns. These are just some of the areas of focus- we are still planning out each individual activity. However each day we are striving to create an engaging, safe and fun atmosphere.

Here is a little intro about our teacher Miss Cassidy Z. We absolutely love her and are so thankful she wanted to join us this summer!

My name is Cassidy Zinsmaster, I have been working in early childhood since 2020. I have worked as a preschool teacher at Kids Court Learning Center in Vicksburg from 2020-2023. In January of 2024 I started working at Park Elementary as a GSRP teacher. I am CPR and First aid certified, I also have my CDA (Child Development Associate) certificate, which qualifies me to be a Pre-K teacher. I have known Nick and Cassie since 2021 when I was their daughters preschool teacher at Kids Court. I have worked weekend markets for Flowerfield since 2022.

About two weeks before our program begins I will send out an info packet with more specific details and student info.
